Our Flat Tops Cabin…
Is more like a secluded mountain lodge available exclusively as a cabin for one group to rent. With over 3500 sq.ft this 4 bedroom, 3.5 bath multi-level home has:
- Multi-level decks
- Full walkout basement
- Wood burning fireplace
- Lower level recreational room
- Radiant in-floor heating throughout
- ½ mile of private river frontage
- 230,000+ acres of snowmobiling terrain
- Over 1 million acres of horseback riding, hiking, hunting, fishing and snowshoeing
- Views of Dunckley Pass and the East Fork of the Williams Fork River, 50 feet below the cabin’s decks.

The Flat Tops are a geological wonder, distinct from the Rocky Mountains. They mark the final stretch of volcanic activity that shaped Yellowstone, which is why these mountains lack towering peaks and instead form the broad, level expanses known as the Flat Tops.
Nestled between two scenic mountain passes along the Flat Tops Scenic Byway, Wild Skies is the southernmost private property before reaching Routt National Forest. Just 2.5 miles beyond lies 235,000 acres of the Flat Tops Wilderness—the first federally designated wilderness area in the United States, a pristine landscape untouched by time.
Wild Skies is surrounded by two of the nation’s great national forests.
The Routt National Forest spans approximately 2 million acres, and just eight miles beyond Wild Skies, it meets the White River National Forest, another vast expanse of over 2 million acres.
The mineral-rich volcanic soil and untouched wilderness create a thriving ecosystem teeming with water, vegetation, and wildlife. This rugged terrain is home to the largest elk herd in the world, with over
36,000 elk roaming its forests; making this area one of the most renowned elk hunting destinations in the United States. Moose, black bear, and deer are also abundant.
At the heart of Wild Skies, the East Fork of the Williams River winds through the property, making it the first private land along its banks.

Here, the river remains untouched, its waters flowing with wild Colorado River Cutthroat Trout. Surrounding the cabin are hundreds of miles of rivers, streams, and alpine lakes, forming a critical part of the headwaters of the Colorado River, where the White and Yampa Rivers originate in the confluence of the Routt and White River National Forests.
For backcountry snowmobiling enthusiasts, Wild Skies offers an unparalleled experience. Perched at 8,400 feet in a secluded river canyon, the cabin opens directly onto unpacked, untracked terrain, allowing riders to ascend to nearly 11,000 feet in mere minutes. The area is known for consistently deep snowfall, with bad years still reaching 250 inches and exceptional seasons topping 750 inches. Unlike many other snowmobiling destinations, Wild Skies enjoys less wind and more moderate winter temperatures, ensuring ideal riding conditions throughout the season.

Whether you’re looking to escape the summer heat with a hike, fishing trip, or horseback ride through some of Colorado’s most untouched and unspoiled landscapes, or simply wish to unwind on the deck, surrounded by nothing but the sound of the river and the quiet beauty of the mountains, Wild Skies is your gateway to serenity, adventure, and the true spirit of the wilderness.
